On March 18th, 2021, Mayor Armondo Pavone ordered the flags lowered to half-staff at Renton City Hall. This was done to remember the victims of the shooting in Atlanta many believe to be a hate crime. The shooter largely targeted women of Asian descent at massage parlors which has sparked conversations on justice for the intersecting affected communities: Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, women, and sex workers.
The flags were first lowered on the 18th, and will continue to be raised at half-staff until close of business on Monday, March 22nd.
In remembrance of the victims who lost their lives in the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on March 16, 2021, in the Atlanta Metropolitan area, Mayor Armondo Pavone has authorized the immediate lowering of flags on all city facilities to half-staff.
Flags will remain lowered until the close of business or sunset on March 22, 2021.
