The week of filing ended on May 27th across the State of Washington, where midterm candidates and Precinct Committee Officers are readying their campaigns. Here is a glance at some of the races we will see in Renton.
In the U.S. Senate, Patty Murray has launched a re-election campaign for another six year term; this would be her sixth term. In total, 18 candidates have filed for the U.S. Senate seat including other Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and Socialist Workers.
For the U.S. House of Representatives, Adam Smith with the 9th Congressional District has launched his campaign for re-election for his 15th term. Stephanie Gallardo has entered the race as an opponent, running as a Democratic Socialist. Two Republicans have also launched campaigns for the position. Doug Basler, quoted in The Seattle Times as “an anti-abortion Christian” saying the “abortion industry is out of control” is running, and has run against Representative Adam Smith before. Doug Basler is also an owner of EZTV Spots, who local politicians have sometimes used in their campaigns. Candidate Sea M. Chan has also announced their campaign for CD9.
For the Washington State Legislature, Representative Steve Bergquist will run again for his fifth term. Representative David Hackney with the 11th Legislative District has announced his run for re-election as well, his second term. Two Republicans, Stephanie Peters and Jeanette Burrage have also filed for the race.
The 11th Legislative District Democrats have given endorsements to Patti Murray for Senate, Adam Smith for House of Representatives, and Steve Bergquist and David Hackney for the Washington State Legislature.
